Uche Sparks Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a comfortable result that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further victory in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS ought to be sufficient to seal straight entry to the last 16, particularly following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity
This match offered a chance for several Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season proved no match even for a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.
Dominance Established from the Outset
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, fizzing a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the official waved away the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for a couple of robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
