Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
